Engineer - OSS Implementation & Support

POSITION OVERVIEW
Within this position, you are accountable for the support of computer-based information systems used for the operational surveillance, control, monitoring, administration and service delivery for SaskTel's telecommunications network.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Accountable for the support of software applications and access configuration that support the computer-based operational systems for the surveillance, control, monitoring, administration and service delivery for SaskTel's network.
· Supports internal client groups including all Operations Centers: Internet Help Desk, Datec, Technology Performance and Operations, Operations, Sales and other departments utilizing Operating System Surveillance applications.
· Implements and supports the appropriate infrastructure (application tools, standards, procedures, etc.) to manage the technical environment to ensure that service levels, survivability and security requirements are met.
· Researches and implements system upgrades and modifications to ensure existing systems and network configuration continue to meet SaskTel's needs for the required performance and capacity.
· Provides Tier III support to operational systems by assisting operations personnel with resolution of troubles, and by the specification and implementation of operational guidelines and procedures for their systems and associated network access. Responsibilities include direct accountability for resolution of technical issues with vendors, internal technical resources and client groups.
· Contributes to systems design and implementation in order to meet SaskTel's requirements for operational support, administrative and service delivery systems. Establishes guidelines for the appropriate functionality and performance of those systems.
· As the Subject Matter Expert, you will lead and transfer knowledge of the systems in use to Network Operations, Network Support, server operations and Information Technology Management. Provides technical advice and/or assistance to other engineers and technical personnel.
· Keeps current with standards and requirements for computer-based operational systems and associated network configurations, and represents Information Systems and Network Operations on issues that impact the network that supports operational systems.
· Provides support on a 'call out' basis 24/7.
· Ensures adherence to the corporate Safety Program.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
· University degree in Electrical, Electronics or Systems Engineering OR combination in Engineering/Computer Science and be eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan.
· Thorough knowledge of computer-based operational systems.
· Knowledge in data communications environment.
· Knowledge of telecommunications network is an asset.
· Knowledge of SaskTel Network or Information Technology Operations is an asset.
· Knowledge of SaskTel organizational structure is an asset.
· Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and apply them to effective solution of business problems.
